Our goal: We provide people an opportunity to help those less fortunate than themselves, without disturbing significantly their work and family responsibilities. Volunteering is probably the most rewarding travel experience available and our programs make it available to a wider audience. Our programs: Each programs offers between 14-21 days volunteer work in a month, followed by 4-7 days relaxation. The volunteer work is at carefully selected sites in Africa (Uganda-East Africa). Most participants are from Europe, Australasia and America. It is a great opportunity to make new friends and have fun while doing something meaningful and highly rewarding. Why International Volunteers Africa? In these changing times, many of us have a strong desire to help those less fortunate than themselves. But sometimes we cannot afford thousands of dollars, Euros and pounds asked by most volunteer programs. So we have organized programs with trustworthy grassroots organization where volunteers can make a difference with the local people and support them rather than supporting the middle man. You can rest assured that your input has provided essential support in parts of the world that need help. Our History: International Volunteers Africa is a brain child of two citizens of Uganda Samuel and Ronald who felt concern about the appalling challenges Ugandans are walking along life. I.V.A began in 2009 as an organization in Uganda referring volunteers to non-profitable organizations (non-profit needs of volunteers and desire for international volunteers to come to Africa), International Volunteers Africa expanded its scope to include all organizations in Uganda. At this time, International Volunteers Africa-Uganda operates in other countries in Africa. International Volunteers Africa was founded and has flourished on the belief that volunteers not only enhance the programs they assist, but also benefit from the experience in several ways. They gain a broader perspective of the needs of Africa and its people, become more informed and more active advocates for the betterment and often improve their skills or learn new ones. We Are Volunteers Too: International Volunteers Africa relies heavily on the services of 5 volunteers. Other volunteers schedule appointments, compile statistics, raise funds, assist with benefit planning, conduct agency visits, and maintain agency relationships. Why does it cost to volunteer? Paying to volunteer can seem a strange concept. Why should someone charge you to work for free? But this is a common misconception about international volunteer placements —the volunteer work is not what you are paying for. So what is the program package going towards? Firstly, we want you to know that the IVA is a registered Charitable Trust in Uganda East Africa (Reg S.59.14/1O230). This means that we are a non-profit organization and we exist simply to fulfill our mission of connecting volunteers with communities in need with a special focus on vulnerable women and children. IVA's volunteer programs are based in developing countries within poverty-stricken communities especially in East African Countries. We partner with local grass-roots organizations who are working hard to make a difference in their community/environment where the majority of people do not have the funds to adequately feed their families, afford health care, or send their children to school. The communities themselves are in need of infrastructure and support and do not have the ability to cover the costs for the much needed assistance a volunteer provides. Our long term aim is for the communities/projects we support to become sustainable and self-sufficient. Although you may not realize it initially, there are a range of costs involved in establishing and maintaining successful volunteer programs. At IVA we believe a successful volunteer program should bring genuine benefits to both the communities we work with and our volunteers. This is more difficult than it may sound and requires us to carefully select, manage and review the partner organizations we work with. There are also a number of costs involved with the services we offer our volunteers. IVA is a NGO and does not receive any government funding so we are dependent on the fees paid by our volunteers to pay for the services and resources we provide. These services begin before you volunteer when you'll be assigned a IVA volunteer coordinator to help you prepare for your trip, and continue when you return home when we'll help you to stay connected to your projects through our newsletters and updates. You'll of course also receive a whole range of services while you're volunteering, including airport pick-up, training, accommodation, meals, supervision, and access to our 24hr emergency line
